Long Beach firefighters saved three cats from a fire of a home located on West Olive Street.

According to the Long Beach Fire Department’s Facebook page, at 1:43 p.m., the fire department was alerted for a house fire on the 400 block of West Olive Street. The first arriving units saw smoke showing from the second floor of the home and made entry. The fire, which was believed to have started under the stairs on the first floor, traveled and spread to the second floor creating a heavy smoke condition inside the home.

Firefighters located the seed of the fire and extinguished the flames while others overhauled the walls and knocked down additional pockets of fire.

Three cats were rescued from inside the home, one of which required medical attention by our paramedics for smoke inhalation. There were no reported injuries and the Office of the Fire Marshal - County of Nassau was on the scene investigating the cause.

All fire department operations were under the command of Richard DiGiacomo, Chief of Department.
