Long Beach playgrounds offer family fun near the beach and boardwalk

Need plans for a little one when they're not in school, at the beach, or running down the boardwalk? Pop into one of the local community playgrounds to enjoy first-class equipment and make a day of it. With three recently renovated playgrounds spread across the city, it's easy for anyone to take a play-break whether it's after school, on the weekend or on a random summer evening.

Built with safety, security and fun in mind, each location has an appropriate beach theme with pirate ship sails, sand-swept floors, or friendly fish and ocean life as decorations. Climb, jump and play from sun up to sundown.

Pacific Park Playground

Renovated in 2024, the Pacific Park Playground features a newly expanded deck and a large shaded area, making it more comfortable to take a break from playing in the heat to fuel up and rest.

The large, fenced-in play area offers a safe way for kids to enjoy a wide range of equipment from classic swings and slides to an assortment of climbing webs and ropes. Pacific Park stands out from other city playgrounds with its unpaved, all-sand flooring. Being so close to the boardwalk and beach, the natural ground reminds everyone that you are, without a doubt, in Long Beach.

Magnolia Playground

The Magnolia Playground was devastated by Hurricane Sandy, but rebuilt better than ever thanks to community response, outreach and support. Just steps from the boardwalk, this fun-filled area lets kids explore, swing and climb on an assortment of equipment. A wheelchair-accessible swing and differently sized climbers helps to make sure everyone can enjoy the day.

The area is fully fenced in for additional safety and includes multiple tables for a quick snack between play sessions. Being beach-adjacent, it offers a great chance to play before or after a day on the waves.

Clark Street Playground

In the most sizzling summer heat, Clark Street Playground may be one of the most popular spots in town. Not only does it deliver a fully enclosed play area with classic swings and slides, but it features a water element and spray feature to deliver bursts of crisp water from spouts, rings and splash pads.

Tucked away at the end of Clark Street, set in the Canal neighborhood along the bay, the playground delivers year-round fun and a hot weather escape. Ample picnic tables let parents, or tired kids, relax and take in the waterfront views.
