Pamela Panzenbeck: Where’s the best place to live? Take a guess.

Glen Cove was voted the 37th-best place to live by Money magazine a couple of years ago. I must say that while I’m proud of this distinction, I disagree. I believe that Glen Cove is the very best place to live. When we travel to other towns and cities, we realize just how special our community is.

How many towns have three beautiful beaches within a six-mile span? How many have a municipal golf course with a view of the water? How many have spectacular parks and recreational facilities for all to enjoy? And how many have wonderful, caring residents whom we call neighbors?

Growing up in Glen Cove exposes children to people of every ethnic and religious background, preparing them for the future. We have every religion represented, with churches and temples alike. We learn how to be friends and gain an understanding of other cultures. As I always say, we have people of every economic background living together in our community.

In Glen Cove we take care of our veterans by providing support and services. We hang banners honoring our beloved veterans, both living and deceased, in beautiful Morgan Park. We also care for and restore our veterans’ monuments, honoring those who fought for our country.

Glen Cove provides services for senior citizens. We are designated an Age-Friendly Community, and have an award-winning senior center where nutritious meals are offered five days a week, along with evening events, exercise classes, art lessons, dance classes, bingo and birthday celebrations.

Our youth bureau offers after-school care, homework help, summer camp programs and a very special Summer Youth Employment Program. This summer, the SYEP kids cleaned the creek, painted fire hydrants and created beautiful murals. Stop down at the stadium to see the American flag and eagle mural on the equipment building, and the adorable paintings on the refreshment stand. The SYEP kids are so proud of their work beautifying their hometown.

Summer days and evenings are full of activity at Pryibil Beach. People stroll at sunset until 8 p.m. most evenings. The pier is full of fishermen, and families play on the new sand volleyball courts.

As you head into Stanco Park, the parking lot is often full. Our pickleball, tennis and basketball courts are completely occupied, with others waiting their turn. The golf course has made a fantastic transition, as the new sprinklers are doing their job. Our regular golfers are very complimentary and happy with the results.

Crescent Beach is the place to go for a peaceful beach experience. So many Glen Covers are happy to have it open this year to swim or relax in the sun. Morgan Park is another place to do just that, and walk through the different levels of the park. Take time to notice all the refurbishments there.

We have been full of activity this year, getting people out of their houses. Events have been sponsored by numerous volunteer organizations and the city itself. Car shows, concerts, dance festivals, food truck festivals, street fairs and so much more — something for everyone.

A Glen Cove family favorite is National Night Out, when members of the Glen Cove Police Department connect with local residents. Evenings like this one help build strong communities. How about a shout-out to our Police Department and other first responders? They’re always here for us in times of need.

Our Vintage Baseball Game and Guns & Hoses game are family-friendly and free for all. Watch parties for the FIFA World Cup and Knicks playoff games were exciting for everyone. Our local teams will be starting their seasons soon.

Each fall, our Volunteer Fire Department holds an open house showcasing its talents and fire-safety techniques. Children can experience a smoke house and learn important safety lessons.

Our Deep Roots Farmers Market is held every Saturday in Village Square. There residents can shop for fresh produce, baked goods and other wonderful items while supporting local farmers, small businesses and vendors.

Take time to enjoy the rest of the summer of 2026 by getting out of the house and joining in our spectacular events.
