East Rockaway seniors earn state seals for civic readiness, biliteracy

Seventy-seven members of East Rockaway High School’s Class of 2026 were recently honored at a special dinner for earning the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness and the Seal of Biliteracy.

Seventy-seven members of East Rockaway High School’s Class of 2026 were recognized at a recent dinner for earning the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness and the New York State Seal of Biliteracy.

The state distinctions are noted on students’ diplomas and are accompanied by a medal and certificate recognizing their academic achievement.

The Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one additional language through advanced coursework and special projects. The Seal of Civic Readiness recognizes students who excel in social studies, perform well on state assessments and demonstrate a commitment to civic engagement and community service.

The honors celebrate students’ academic success, leadership and dedication to serving their communities while preparing them for college, careers and civic life.
