Members of East Rockaway’s Tri-M Music Honor Society got a firsthand look at the world of professional opera during a recent trip to the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.
The students attended the final dress rehearsal of Giacomo Puccini’s “La Bohème” through the Met’s Access Opera program, which gives students and educators an opportunity to attend a production’s final run-through before opening night.
They were accompanied by Music Department Chairperson Pete Ceglio, chorus teacher Seanna Silver and orchestra teacher Noah Luft-Weissberg.
“La Bohème,” set in 1830s Paris, follows a group of young artists and explores themes of love, friendship and loss.
Tri-M, a program of the National Association for Music Education, recognizes students for achievement in music and academics while encouraging leadership and service through music.
The trip offered students an opportunity to expand their musical education beyond the classroom.
