A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated after crashing through a homeowner’s fence in Lynbrook early Sunday morning, according to police.

Lynbrook police responded to a call at 3:03 a.m. for an auto accident near 332 Broadway. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle that had veered off the roadway, crashed through a fence along Broadway and ended up in the backyard of a home on Lennox Place.

Police said the driver was seen crawling out of the wreckage and attempting to flee the scene in front of 316 Broadway. Officers reported detecting the odor of alcohol on his breath and said he appeared intoxicated.

Following an on-scene investigation, the man was arrested and transported to Nassau County Police Headquarters for further testing.

“We received multiple calls about the crash, and our officers responded immediately,” Lynbrook Police Chief Brian Paladino said. “When they arrived, they observed the driver exiting the vehicle and attempting to leave the scene. Based on their investigation at the scene, it was clear he was intoxicated, and they took appropriate action to ensure the safety of our community.”
