The Lynbrook village board approved applying for an additional $675,000 New York State grant to help fund the planned all-weather canopy over the outdoor roller hockey rink at Greis Park.
During its July 13 meeting, the board authorized village officials to seek additional funding through New York State’s Consolidated Funding Application program before the program’s July 31 application deadline. Mayor Alan Beach said the village had already secured grant funding for the project but hoped the additional state assistance would help move it closer to completion.
“We received a grant ... and we filed a notice of intent to file for another $675,000 grant under the New York State CFA program,” Beach said.
The latest application builds on the village’s previously announced $850,000 federal Community Project Funding grant, secured by U.S. Rep. Laura Gillen. According to Lynbrook Police Chief and Lynbrook Roller Hockey League President Brian Paladino, the overall project needs additional funding before construction can begin.
“We are looking at around $1.7 million for the canopy,” Paladino previously told the Herald.
