Three Lynbrook High School seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Lyla Gaffoor, Reid Linzer and Charles Podlaski are among roughly 34,000 students nationwide receiving the distinction from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, the designation recognizes students who demonstrated strong academic performance on the qualifying exam.

Gaffoor, Linzer and Podlaski each received a letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognizing their achievement. The honor can also be included on their résumés and college applications as they prepare for their next steps after graduating from Lynbrook High School.

The recognition places the three seniors among high-achieving students from across the country honored through this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program.
