Lynbrook students mark Autism Acceptance Month with schoolwide activities

Students at Marion Street School in the Lynbrook school district marked Autism Acceptance Month on April 1 with a walk and hands-on activities focused on inclusion, empathy and understanding.

Wearing blue and carrying messages of acceptance, students walked around the school track to show support for individuals with autism. Fifth graders from the No Place for Hate Student Committee led the effort, guiding their peers in conversations about how to create a more welcoming and respectful school community.

After the walk, students took part in interactive learning stations that explored different aspects of the autism spectrum. Through the activities and discussions, students learned about diverse ways people communicate and experience the world, while building skills in empathy, kindness and inclusion across grade levels.
