Lynbrook opens new pedestrian walkway connecting downtown business corridors

The Village of Lynbrook celebrated the completion of its new pedestrian walkway connecting Broadway and Atlantic Avenue with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 9, marking the end of a project designed to improve access to the heart of the village’s downtown.

Mayor Alan Beach and members of the Village Board were joined by State Sen. Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick, Nassau County Councilwoman Laura Ryder, Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce President Michela Argento-Serra and other community members to officially open the walkway.

The newly renovated passage provides pedestrians with a direct connection between Broadway and the shops and restaurants along Atlantic Avenue. Improvements include new brickwork, upgraded lighting, stucco work and decorative archways, creating a more welcoming entrance to the village’s business district.

The project received funding through Empire State Development, which Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick credited with helping the village invest in its downtown.

“We appreciate the support and funding from Empire State Development to invest in our community, and I was happy to work with the Village on this effort,” Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick wrote on Facebook.

Ryder said the completed walkway will make it easier for residents and visitors to reach businesses along Atlantic Avenue from Broadway.

“This beautiful new walkway will provide easier access to the shops and restaurants along Atlantic Avenue from Broadway, creating a great connection for residents and visitors alike,” Ryder wrote on Facebook.

The ribbon cutting came less than a month after village officials reported that the project was nearing completion. At the July 13 Village Board meeting, Lynbrook Police Chief Brian Paladino said only finishing work remained and described the walkway as “a great asset to the village.”

With construction now complete, the walkway adds another pedestrian connection to Lynbrook’s downtown while supporting the village’s continuing efforts to improve and beautify its commercial district.
