Lynbrook approves replacement of downtown parking pay stations

The Lynbrook Village Board approved the replacement of five downtown parking pay stations after officials learned the existing system is nearing the end of its service life.

During the July 13 meeting, Mayor Alan Beach said the village was notified by DVO that the manufacturer of its current parking equipment, Flowbird, is discontinuing support for the pay-by-space server used by the village’s meters.

“The manufacturer of our equipment, Flowbird, recently informed DVO that the pay-by-space server used for our meters is at the end of its life,” Beach said, adding that because of the age of the equipment, “they cannot be upgraded.”

Beach said Department of Public Works Superintendent Phil Healey reviewed replacement options and recommended installing five new solar-powered pay stations that accept bills, coins and credit cards. The Village Board approved the purchase at a cost of $57,444.50.

“Mr. Healey looked into this and he wants to replace five solar-powered... pay-by-space [stations] that accept bills, coins and cards,” Beach said.
