Davison Avenue Intermediate School in Malverne hosted “Popsicles on the Playground” Aug. 19, giving local families, students and staff an informal opportunity to connect and welcome the school’s new principal, Chineeka Davis, ahead of the upcoming school year.
Dozens of local families gathered on the school grounds for an afternoon of outdoor play and community connection. Parents and students spoke directly with Davis, exchanged ideas for the school year and joined in the excitement surrounding a new chapter at Davison Avenue.
“It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and feel the incredible energy of the Davison Avenue community,” said Mrs. Davis. “I am honored to step into this role and am deeply grateful for the warm welcome from our students, parents and dedicated staff. I look forward to working together to ensure a supportive, engaging and successful school year for every child.”
The event also gave Davis an opportunity to begin building relationships with students and parents before they return to classrooms for the start of the academic year. Families were able to spend time together in a relaxed setting while becoming acquainted with the school’s new leader.
With the new school year approaching, Davison Avenue is continuing its focus on building partnerships among educators, families and community members to support student learning and well-being. The Aug. 19 gathering provided an early opportunity to strengthen those connections while introducing Davis to the wider school community.
