Families gathered at Westwood Park on Aug. 12 for an outdoor performance of “Junie B. Jones: The Musical,” presented by Malverne Community Theater in partnership with the village and Chamber of Commerce.

Based on the popular children’s book series, the musical brought recognizable characters, music and live theater to the park as part of Malverne’s Summer Events Series.

The production marked the second year Malverne Community Theater presented an outdoor show in the village. Last summer, the group staged “Elephant & Piggie’s ‘We Are in a Play!’” and drew a strong turnout of families, leading organizers to select another production aimed at young audiences.

The musical was staged on a showmobile in Westwood Park, transforming the portable stage into an outdoor theater for children and their families.

The performance was part of a summer entertainment lineup intended to give Malverne families opportunities to gather for concerts, theater and other outdoor events.
