Friday, May 15 was the Malverne Fire Department’s 114th annual installation ceremony. Fire department and company officers swore the oath of service, and Village Trustees Scott Edwards and Lori Lang swore in top-ranking department officials. The department also had its annual inspection.

Scott Edwards, who served as Fire Chief for six years before serving as Malverne Deputy Mayor, swore Chief Anthony Buonomo in.

He also swore First and Second Deputy Chieves Ernest Bohringer and Jay Houlihan in. Village Trustee and Fire Commissioner Lori Lang swore in the department and company officers.

Buonomo expressed his gratitude for the support of the department and his family. “To all who were installed tonight, thank you for your service,” he said. “2025 was an incredible year for our department, seeing the dedication you all show makes me feel proud of our future.”

Buonomo also congratulated all department members who reached service milestones for  their continued dedication. Robert Meyer reached 60 years of service, David Gardina and Robert Roth Jr. reached 50 years of service, Neil Cronin reached 45 years of service, Ryan Lawton reached 15 years of service, and Vito Anteri, Nicole Aresta, and Illeana Feliz reached 5 years of service.

Our Lady of Lourdes’ Rev. Chux Okochi led two prayers for the continued protection and safety of the fire department. “May they always make it home safely every night,” Rev. Okochi said.

Trustee Edwards also gave a speech congratulating the firefighters. “It seems like yesterday when all of these new officers and lieutenants were sworn in,” he said. “Tonight, we’re coming together to celebrate the sacrifice and commitment that each of you brings to the Malverne Fire Department.”

Edwards also extended his gratitude to the department on behalf of Mayor Tim Sullivan and Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick, each of whom could not attend the ceremony due to prior commitments to their families.

“The Village Board and the fire department have worked together for the advancement of both the village and the department, and may we continue to work together for years to come,” Edwards concluded.
