The Malverne Union Free School District Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting on July 7, administering oaths of office, electing board leadership for the coming year and making appointments ahead of the 2026-27 school year.

The meeting began with the district’s annual swearing-in ceremony, conducted by legal counsel. District Clerk Lisa Ridley renewed her oath of office, followed by Superintendent Dr. Maria Rianna. Newly elected Trustee Sandy Ronquillo was then sworn in and officially welcomed to the Board of Education.

Following the oath ceremonies, the board elected its officers for the new term. Nicole Henderson was selected to serve as board president. Kathleen Nolan-Kasal was elected first vice president, and Jeanne D’Esposito was elected second vice president.

The board also administered oaths to its student board members, continuing a program that gives students the opportunity to participate in board meetings in an advisory capacity. District leaders noted that the student representatives are entering the second year of the initiative.

“I solemnly swear to support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New York,” Rianna said, reciting the oath, “and faithfully discharge the duties of superintendent of schools of the Malvern Union Free School District, according to the best of my ability.”

After completing the reorganization portion of the meeting, the board convened its regular monthly meeting, approving the minutes from June as well as the district’s May treasurer’s report and monthly financial reports.

Although no formal superintendent’s report was presented, district administrators shared an update on preparations for the upcoming school year. District offices are continuing interviews and staffing efforts while preparing to welcome incoming prekindergarten and kindergarten students. Orientation information for families is expected to be distributed in the coming weeks as the district finalizes plans for the start of classes.

Board members also approved the regular meeting consent agenda before opening the floor for public discussion.

“We are well underway to prepare our students for the 26/27 school year,” Rianna said. “The district office is in full swing with interviews and preparations as we welcome our new our new pre K students into our building, as well as our new kindergarten students.”

Before adjourning, the board announced key upcoming dates, including its next Board of Education meeting on Aug. 25 and the opening day of school for students on Sept. 2.

The annual reorganization meeting established the board’s leadership structure and administrative appointments while setting the stage for the district’s continued preparations for the 2026-27 school year.
