Grace Rivkin of Malverne turned 100-years old on March 29 and celebrated with family and friends at Prince Umberto’s Italian restaurant in Franklin Square. Rivkin is originally from Guatemala and emigrated at the age of 19 to marry her husband, who served in World War II.

Rivkin has two children, Linda and Garry; two grandchildren, Laurie and Michelle; and three great-grandchildren, John, Jaime, and Alec.

Rivkin said she believes the secrets to a long and happy life are coffee, Spanish music, and pets.

Granddaughter Michelle Schneider helped organize the party. She has a special connection with Rivkin. “My grandma named me at birth,” Schneider said, “and I have cherished her everyday since then. I call her my Miss America.”

Village of Malverne Mayor-elect Tim Sullivan was one of several elected officials who presented a citation to honor Rivkin.

“Grace’s family has literally brought smiles to the faces of so many families in our community over the years,” Sullivan said. “It was only appropriate that we delivered a small token of our appreciation. We were elated to have shared a few smiles with her on her 100th birthday.”
