The West Hempstead Education Association hosted its annual Battle of the Schools in the Secondary School gymnasium on Mar. 6.
“All the staff comes together and volunteers their time to entertain the community and to help out our high school seniors,” said Robyn Wagner, director of the WHEA and a Kindergarten teacher at Chestnut Street School.
Tickets were $5 in advance and $10 at the door, with all proceeds going to support the WHEA Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarships to West Hempstead seniors.
Teachers take part in activities such as relay races, musical chairs, hungry human hippos and balloon races. The event has been a tradition in the school community for 20 years.
