The Grand Avenue Science Research Program wrapped up another competition season by hosting its annual science fair May 7, giving students an opportunity to present original research projects to the school community.

Organized by the Students Network of Cooperative Science, the event featured 18 student researchers who displayed work spanning a variety of scientific fields, highlighting innovation, inquiry and problem-solving skills developed throughout the school year.

Science research teacher Tami Cruz said the fair allowed students to share their work with a wide audience of family members, friends, faculty and administrators.

“This was an opportunity for the students to present their science research projects to family, friends, school faculty and administrators, and other supporters,” Cruz said. “The fair celebrated the hard work and accomplishments of the program’s student researchers throughout the school year.”

During the 2025-26 school year, students in the program competed in two regional competitions: the LISEF-SSP Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge and the Long Island Science Congress. Several students earned placements in the Junior Innovators Challenge, while results from the Long Island Science Congress are still pending.

Science Chair Heather Bizewski said the event highlighted the students’ dedication and growth as young researchers.

“The science fair was a great opportunity for our students to share their passion for research and discovery with the school community,” Bizewski said. “We are incredibly proud of their hard work, perseverance, and achievements throughout the year.”
