Harold D. Fayette third graders collaborate on kindness with sixth grade peers

The North Merrick School District’s Project HELP visited Harold D. Fayette School on Oct. 7, bringing sixth and third graders together for a lesson on kindness and respect.

The Fayette Project HELP team made its first visit of the school year to Mrs. Giordano’s classroom, where sixth graders led teams of third graders in brainstorming ways to show respect and appreciation. Through thought-provoking questions and collaborative activities, the older students encouraged their younger peers to share ideas and explore how kindness can make a difference. Students then illustrated acts of kindness on puzzle pieces that will be assembled into a heart-shaped display outside the classroom.

Project HELP aims to strengthen connections across grade levels while helping sixth graders develop leadership skills and a growth mindset. The activity gave older students an opportunity to serve as role models while encouraging younger students to practice empathy, recognize the importance of small acts of kindness and build a stronger sense of community.
