Three have my vote

To the Editor:

This letter is not only an endorsement of our candidates Bill McLaughlin, Mike Hawxhurst and Laura Ryder, but also of the entire group of volunteers and community stewards who make our village a premier place to live, work and play.

Great communities don’t happen by accident. They are the product of hard work, collaboration and, most important, leaders who serve their neighbors and the larger community. Justice Bill McLaughlin, Deputy Mayor Michael Hawxhurst and Trustee candidate Laura Ryder have proven themselves not just as capable individuals who get things done, but also as leaders who mobilize others to achieve big things.

Hawxhurst and Ryder have been an integral part of planning some of Lynbrook’s most memorable events in recent memory, such as the Oktoberfest and the drive-in movie at Greis Park. They also have established reputations deploying their own strengths.

Hawxhurst has shown tremendous leadership with budgeting and financial analysis, which has helped maintain Lynbrook’s stellar bond rating and hold the line on taxes, even during record revenue shortfalls amid Covid-19. He has also advocated for many village programs and events that make Lynbrook a great place to raise a family.

Ryder is a known as a community advocate who was voted Humanitarian of the Year, leading the Community Chest and founding the group Lynbrook Cares to benefit residents when they are struggling and in need.

With spring on our doorstep and the pandemic hopefully soon to be in the rearview mirror, we need Hawxhurst and Ryder on the board to help us continue to make Lynbrook a standout community, develop with even bigger and better events to celebrate our village, and inspire others to get involved.

Election Day is March 16. I encourage you to join me in voting for Hawxhurst, Ryder and McLaughlin.

To the Editor:

Of all my duties as a Lynbrook trustee, writing a letter of endorsement on behalf of Bill McLaughlin, Mike Hawxhurst and Laura Ryder is truly one of the most rewarding.

I have had the pleasure of working closely with each of these tremendous individuals and know that if Hawxhurst and McLaughlin are re-elected, they will continue their dedication and hard work on behalf of our great community.

McLaughlin has served as Village Court justice for 24 years. He has been married to his wife, Marianne, for 44 years, and has four children and three grandchildren. He is a lifelong village resident. Under McLaughlin’s guidance and tutelage, the Village Court is viewed as a model of efficiency and fairness across the state. He is tough when required, but compassionate when appropriate. It is important to note that our court is one of the busiest village courts in the state, and McLauglin has done a tremendous job.

Hawxhurst and I have worked closely for the last six years. He is a finance and accounting professional who prides himself on knowing the budget forward and backward. It is amazing to see that he knows where every cent of our tax dollars go.  He is the perfect example of a fiscally responsible public servant. In his 12 years on the village board, he has saved Lynbrook thousands of tax dollars. Mike is the father of two beautiful daughters and has recently become engaged to his longtime girlfriend.

What else could possibly be said about Laura Ryder? Anyone who lives in Lynbrook has surely benefitted from this tireless and dedicated woman. Ryder’s involvement in Lynbrook is longer than could ever be spelled out in a letter. She chairs the Lynbrook Community Chest and Lynbrook Community Cares, and was a driving force behind the 9/11 Monument Committee and Beautification Committee, and she now sits on the Architectural Review Board. She has been married to her husband, Mike Ryder, for 27 years. They have two wonderful children. Laura is absolutely tireless in her work for Lynbrook.

Election Day is March 16. Voting will take place at the Recreation Center at Greis Park from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. I will vote for McLaughlin, Hawxhurst and Ryder.
