Students in the North Merrick School District spent part of their summer strengthening their musical abilities through the district's Instrumental Music program, held July 6-29.
The program gave students an opportunity to build on skills learned during the school year while preparing for the fall. Through instrumental practice, collaboration and performance, students refined their technique, gained confidence and worked together in a supportive environment.
Participants learned ensemble pieces, including "Jeopardy" and "Don't Stop Believin'," while also preparing individual solos for upcoming New York State School Music Association auditions. Solo selections included "March of the Giant" on bass, "Bourrée" on violin and "Minuet" on keyboard.
District officials said the program helps young musicians continue developing their talents over the summer while fostering a lasting appreciation for music.
