Baldwin High School students expanded their knowledge of the culinary world during the annual Northwell Health Spark! Challenge in Long Island Jewish Valley Stream’s Food and Nutrition Department.
From menu design to clinical nutrition and planning, the culinary students received a tour of the hospital’s kitchen and learned about various career paths in the culinary and healthcare fields before taking part in a cooking competition.
Under the supervision of Joseph Dobias, director of Dining Services, the students received real-world experience as they prepared lunch for Northwell Health administrators and other Spark! Challenge participants utilizing the hospital’s kitchen, pantry and appliances.
