Fire commissioner elections were held in the West Hempstead and Lakeview fire districts on Dec. 9 to determine who would be serving a five-year term on the respective district’s board of commissioners.

Daniel McCrossin, who ran unopposed in the Lakeview fire district, was elected for his first term as commissioner. McCrossin, 39, is a West Hempstead resident and has been a member of the Lakeview Fire Department for 14 years.

“I’m grateful for the confidence the community has shown in electing me fire commissioner,” McCrossin told the Herald. “My focus now is simple: support my fellow firefighters, improve service, and work hard for the people of Lakeview.”

Jonathan Poirot challenged incumbent William D’Alessandro for a position on the West Hempstead board of fire commissioners and won. Poirot, 43, is a lifelong West Hempstead resident and has served the West Hempstead Fire Department for 24 years.

“I’m happy that I get to serve the district at a higher level,” Poirot wrote to the Herald. “I hope to keep the district running smooth and up to date with the times.”

Both McCrossin and Poirot will be sworn into their new roles as commissioner on January 1st.
