Glenwood Landing says ‘aloha’ to the start of summer

Posted

Last Friday, the Glenwood Landing Elementary School community was transported to a tropical paradise in their own backyard. The school hosted its first end-of-the-year family luau to celebrate the start of summer.

Principal Bridget Finder likened the event to the annual back-to-school barbecue that takes place in the fall, but with a tiki-themed twist. Students, parents and faculty donned grass skirts, flower leis, Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses, as if they were patrons of an island resort. The field was dressed for the occasion as well, decorated with tropical tinsel and tiki faces.

Children enjoyed a bounce house and an inflatable obstacle course, as well as field games and hula hooping. A DJ provided smash-hit songs of the summer to keep up with the tropical theme, and a couple of cotton candy machines kept students smiling under the sun.
