UPDATE

Gov. Kathy Hochul introduced the "Local Cops, Local Crimes Act" on Jan 30. The act would ban local jails and police from contracting with ICE to allow local police to act as ICE agents.

Nassau County Executive Bruke Blakeman announced his opposition to the act on Monday, saying he would fight the proposal.

Students at North Shore High School, led by senior Isa Guerrero, held a walkout on Friday in protest of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Roughly 65 students participated, holding signs and waving flags on the sidewalk in front of the high school.

They shouted chants like “the people united will never be defeated” and “this is what democracy looks like.” The walkout was entirely student organized and comes as students across the United States continue to stage protests against ICE.
