More than 500 runners, walkers, families and Girl Scout supporters gathered at Jones Beach State Park on Sept. 20 for the third annual Thin Mint Sprint 5K and Family Fun Walk.

Despite rainy weather, participants turned out for the event, which was held as part of Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend. The event raised money for Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Family Partnership Giving Campaign, which provides financial assistance to families in need so they can participate in Girl Scout programs regardless of their financial circumstances.

“The Thin Mint Sprint is the perfect way to bring the community together, fundraise and have a great time doing it,” Rande Bynum, chief executive of Girl Scouts of Nassau County, said in a statement.

Bynum said the turnout despite the rain showed the support of runners, walkers, volunteers and others involved with Girl Scouts.

The event encouraged participants to spend time outdoors while supporting Girl Scouts across Nassau County. Each participant received a box of Thin Mints at the finish line.

The event was sponsored by PSEG Long Island, Spencer Davidson, Rudolf Fischer and Solarus Technologies.
