Lisa Levenberg, vocal music teacher at Division Avenue and General Douglas MacArthur high schools in the Levittown School District, has been selected to receive the Excellence in Innovative Theater Arts Education Award at the 16th annual Roger Rees Awards.
Mrs. Levenberg has served as a full time teacher for more than 30 years at MacArthur High School, where she directs the annual fall musical. Mrs. Levenberg also directs the spring musical at Division Avenue High School. She received applause from her current students and fellow faculty members when she was informed about the honor on April 24 by former students and Roger Rees Awards alumni Jake Schauder and Cassidy Baltazar during her choir class.
The award recognizes Mrs. Levenberg’s innovative leadership and highlights the unique role that theater and music educators play in their schools, communities and the Broadway industry. The Roger Rees Awards and the Broadway Education Alliance established the award in 2025, making Mrs. Levenberg the second educator to receive the recognition.
“I can’t imagine doing anything else,” Levenberg said while reflecting on her role as a teacher. “To see where students start their journey, fueled by a spark and passion to perform that pushes them to become fantastic performers — it’s so rewarding.”
“Lisa is truly one of a kind — an extraordinary blend of problem solver, dedicated teacher and creative force,” said award cofounder and spokesperson Jim Hoare, executive vice president of education and community initiatives at Theatrical Rights Worldwide. “She consistently delivers exceptional results on stage while motivating her students to grow into their best selves both in and beyond the spotlight.”
Mrs. Levenberg will be presented with her award at the 16th annual Roger Rees Awards talent showcase at Symphony Space in New York.
