Seaford students look ahead on Viking Vision Day

Seaford High School students took part in the annual Viking Vision Day on Jan. 30, a day-long program designed to help them prepare for the second semester and beyond.

This year’s theme was “Seaford Scholars: All In.” The event aimed to reenergize students midyear, reinforce school values, promote academic opportunities, and provide access to wellness and planning resources.

Freshmen, sophomores and juniors attended a curriculum fair in the gymnasium, where each department showcased elective offerings and answered student questions. With course scheduling around the corner, the fair gave students a chance to learn more about options for next school year.

Through Counselor Connection, students also met with guidance counselors to discuss their goals and plans. In the auditorium, students took part in a Family Feud-style game focused on the 10 Seaford Scholar traits: risk taker, resilient, mindful, innovative, reflective, humorous, communicative, principled, flexible and networked.

The day also featured a powerful presentation called “Hang Up and Drive,” led by Jacy Good and her husband, Steve Johnson. Good shared her personal story of surviving a 2008 crash that left her partially paralyzed and killed her parents — a crash caused by a driver on the phone. The assembly urged students to avoid distracted driving and be mindful behind the wheel.

Earlier in the day, eighth graders from Seaford Middle School visited the building for Practice Run Day. They toured the high school, attended an extracurricular fair and learned about academic programs ahead of their transition next year.
