The Seaford Wellness Council recently donated $14,000 to support the Seaford Public Library’s 2026 Summer Children’s Reading Program, continuing a long-standing partnership between the two organizations.
The funds were raised through the council’s 20th annual Seaford Hot Chocolate 5K Run/Walk, held in December of last year. A formal check presentation took place just prior to the library’s Board of Trustees meeting on April 13.
Seaford Library’s summer reading program is widely regarded as one of the most popular in Nassau County, drawing large participation each year with a range of educational activities, events and incentives designed to keep children engaged in reading during the summer months.
Representatives from both organizations were in attendance including Seaford Wellness Council President Laura Metzdorff-Rivera and Library Board President John M. Scaparro.
“The SWC could not be happier to have designated the 2026 Summer Children’s Reading Program for this year’s support,” Metzdorff-Rivera said. “I know first-hand from my daughters of the wonderful activities that are held at the library in the summer months as well as all year long.”
Library officials expressed appreciation for the continued support. “We are extremely appreciative of the recognition and contribution that the Wellness Council has bestowed on the library,” Scaparro said.
According to Michael J. DiSilvio, who served as council president at the time of the race, the donation reflects the group’s ongoing commitment to the library and its role in the community. “The SWC has always supported the library, including financial support for the annual summer concert series and the 50th anniversary celebration,” DiSilvio said. “This donation is further acknowledgement of the importance of the library to Seaford.”
The Seaford Wellness Council’s Hot Chocolate 5K has become a staple community event over the past two decades, raising funds each year for local initiatives that promote wellness, education and community engagement. With this year’s contribution, the council continues its mission of reinvesting in programs that directly impact Seaford residents. This year it’s the town’s youngest readers who benefit.
