The Town of Hempstead, in partnership with Long Island Cares and PSEG Long Island, will host a Farmers Market for seniors on Oct. 9 at the Sands at Lido Beach. Hempstead’s Town Council said the market will provide senior citizens, ages 55 and older, with free, locally grown fresh produce.
“Long Island Cares and the Harry Chapin Food Bank have been a leader in tackling food insecurity, addressing the root causes of hunger and feeding people in need for over 45 years,” Town Supervisor John Ferretti said. “We’re proud to partner with them on a program that will connect our town’s seniors with farm-fresh produce.”
“Long Island Cares is proud to join the Town of Hempstead and PSEG Long Island to serve Hempstead seniors,” Robert LaBarbera, Long Island Cares’ vice president for procurement & supply chain oversight said. “We all have had a long-time commitment to serving seniors and Long Island Cares is always ready to provide them with the most nutritious foods available.”
The Free Farmers Market for Seniors will be held outdoors, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Supporting our senior residents and helping them thrive is a key part of PSEG Long Island’s effort to improve the communities where we live and work,” said Michael Presti, PSEG Long Island’s director of Customer Experience and Marketing. “We are proud to partner with Long Island Cares and the Town of Hempstead to provide Hempstead seniors with healthy, fresh produce at this brand-new event.”
The Sands at Lido Beach is at 710 Lido Boulevard, Lido Beach. For more information, residents can call Long Island Cares at (631) 582-3663 or email outreachCCE@licares.org.
“Through the Department of Senior Enrichment, the Town of Hempstead has provided our Town’s senior citizens with a plethora of activities, transportation to our senior centers and programs, as well as outreach services throughout the year,” Ferretti said. “Whether it is the senior flu vaccine program, a special birthday celebration at a local senior center or the popular senior summer beach program at Lido Beach, we are here to help residents live their golden age years to their fullest. I thank Long Island Cares and PSEG Long Island for collaborating to bring this free farmers market to the Town of Hempstead.”
