On the day that a terrorist killed more than 80 people in Nice, France, during a Bastille Day celebration, West Hempstead held a dedication ceremony for its long-awaited 9/11 Memorial, a multi-year endeavor to honor its hometown heroes whose lives were also taken by terrorists.

The Town of Hempstead recently approved a zoning variance for the construction of a third 7-Eleven in West Hempstead, which will tentatively begin next month. The new store will be built on an empty lot at the corner of Hempstead Turnpike and Westminster Road, and is part of a property block owned by Rettner Management, a real estate holdings and acquisitions company based in Yonkers.
