I would like to thank the Valley Stream Community Association for all the work its leaders are selflessly doing on behalf of all of us. This meeting was the most informative one we’ve had so far, with some specific reasons and answers of why the Federal Emergency Management Agency is robbing us.

Last Thursday, I attended what was labeled an important community forum and hearing of the Nassau County Legislature’s Towns, Villages and Cities Committee being conducted by Legislator Francis X. Becker Jr. to discuss the impact of the new Federal Emergency Management Agency flood maps implemented in September 2009.

July 2008 - The Federal Emergency Management Agency releases redrawn flood plain maps for Nassau County, adding about 30,000 homes, including more than 3,000 in the Valley Stream area, to the high-risk flood zone. Most homes added to the flood zone are south of Sunrise Highway. The maps are to take effect in 14 months.
