All Oceanside and Island Park teachers and principals were rated “highly effective” or “effective” on the Annual Professional Performance Review, or APPR. A total score of 91-100 is “highly effective,” while a total score of 75-90 is “effective.”

Island Park’s full-day pre-kindergarten will start Sept. 29, thanks to a grant from the New York State Education Department.
On Aug. 18, the Island Park school district was informed that it would receive a $600,000 grant for a full day pre-K. Since grantees for the 2014-15 school year must have a program ready this year, the district plans to set up the program as soon as possible.

The Island Park school district has received a $600,000 grant for full day pre-Kindergarten from New York State.
According to superintendent Rosmarie Bovino, the grant will go to setting up the program, staff salaries, food for the children and technology. The pre-K program itself will start in September 2015.
