Wellness Council to host Disco Night fundraiser
The Community Wellness Council of the Bellmores and Merricks will host a Disco Night fundraiser on Friday, March 25, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bellmore, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. more

Jonathan Butler, a Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District trustee, made a motion at Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting that the district place a $3.5 million to $4.5 million bond referendum on the ballot in May to fund construction of three synthetic-turf football fields at Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham high schools. Gov’s school aid plan hits local districts hard
Bellmore-Merrick area school administrators said this week that, yes, their districts could cover proposed state aid cuts with their unrestricted reserve funds and federal stimulus dollars, as proposed recently by Governor Cuomo. But, they quickly noted, doing so could leave them with little to no cash on hand for emergencies, and even jeopardize the districts’ long-term fiscal health. more

Not one but two Calhoun High School football players have earned scholarships to play football at Division I colleges starting in the fall of 2011 –– Nicholas Marcello, a kicker who was recruited by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., and Coleman Meier, a linebacker who is headed to SUNY Stony Brook. more
