Clarke Middle School student James Giella was named one of 12 award winners in Astoria Federal’s annual Teen Photo Contest in May. He was selected for his photo taken of his sister running with her dog on a suburban sidewalk, which aptly represented this year’s theme, “People and Their Pets.”

A group of technically talented teens put their gadget mastery to good use at the Baldwin Public Library on March 2, tutoring a gathering of seniors on the proper use of their gizmos and gear. A half dozen young people between ages 11 and 17 showed up early to enjoy pizza in the community room before their more mature clients began peppering them with questions.

With the holiday season upon us, we at the Community Parent Center believe it is important for parents to be extra careful when handing over the car keys to their teen drivers. The time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is one of the busiest for travel, and newly licensed teens do not have enough experience to navigate through heavy traffic and winter weather conditions.
