A 79-year-old North Bellmore man was killed while crossing Sunrise Highway at Bellmore Avenue on Feb. 16 at 6:12 a.m., police said.
According to detectives, Louis Valentine was the victim. A 71-year-old Bellmore woman, who had the green light, hit Valentine when he stepped into oncoming traffic. Valentine was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead at 6:38 a.m.
The woman's 1999 Ford was impounded for safety tests. No charges were filed.
In a separate incident, a North Bellmore man was struck and killed by his own car during a three-vehicle, chain-reaction accident on Feb. 17.
Thomas Palmese, 19, lost control of his car and hit the Meadowbrook's center divider as he drove north near Hempstead Turnpike at 8:40 p.m., state police said.
Palmese left his car to inspect damage to it. A sports utility vehicle swerved to the right to avoid Palmese's car and turned over. At the same time, a minivan veered in that direction. The minivan crashed into Palmese's car, which then struck him.
Palmese and three teenage passengers in his car, including his sister, were rushed to Nassau University Medical Center. The three passengers were treated and released. Palmese was pronounced dead at 2:05 a.m., officials said.
