All but one of the 10 locations where tires were slashed were within a five-block radius, according to police officer Stan Slevinski, crime analyst for the precinct. The 10th attack took place approximately 10 blocks northeast of the others.
Viola Street was the hardest hit. Seven cars at three locations were damaged a total of 19 tires, Slevinski-s report said. All four tires were slashed on a 1991 Honda, a 1998 Plymouth and a 1998 Mercedes parked at the same location. Two cars at a second Viola Street residence a 1999 Nissan and a 1982 Chevrolet had one tire slashed. The third Viola Street resident told police that five tires on a 1991 Toyota and a 2000 Chevy van had been slashed.
The owners of three cars a 1997 Ford, a 1985 Mercedes and a 1988 Jeep reported that their tires had been slashed. All three cars were parked at the same location on West Merrick Road. Three tires were slashed on the Mercedes, one on the Ford and two on the Jeep.
Two Green Street residents made the same complaint to police. One found that two rear tires on a 1996 Lincoln had been slashed. A 1998 Pontiac was also damaged.
Three cars parked on Liberty Boulevard a 1993 Eagle, a 1994 Nissan and a 1994 Lincoln were each found with one tire slashed. Those slashings were reported at the same residence. Finally, the rear tire of a 1996 Mercury was found slashed on Edgewood Road.
All of the incidents, including the dented door and shaving cream, were reported by 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The attacks may have occurred as early as 5:30 p.m. Saturday in one case, and as late as 5 a.m. Sunday at two of the locations.
