Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi and Police Commissioner William Willett announced the redeployment of a total of 74 police officers throughout the eight precincts in Nassau County, a move designed to reduce overtime and improve police presence and public safety.
The redeployment plan will result in an annual savings of $2.4 million in overtime costs.
Seven officers have been reassigned at the Fourth Precinct, which takes in East Rockaway, the Five Towns, Atlantic Beach, Oceanside, Island Park, Lido Beach and Point Lookout. The officers who have been reassigned include one parking enforcement cop, two uniform general enforcement officers, one time schedule officer, a command-level trainer and two vehicle and traffic enforcement cops.
The First Precinct reassigned the most officers with 16; the Third Precinct was second with 14, the Sixth and Eighth Precincts, with 11 each; the Fifth Precinct, with nine; the Seventh Precinct, with four; and the Second Precinct, with two.
You can thank Tom Suozzi for that, said one officer who was not too happy with his reassignment.
