Squad members accepted the award at a special dinner in October. Head coach Al Belbol, of Merrick, said, "Right from the first practice, I emphasized sportsmanship with them. I had them tell me what they felt good sportsmanship was and asked for examples.
Belbol continued, "They developed a mentality of playing by the Golden Rule in that they treated other players the way they wanted to be treated. The same respect was given to the referees, opposing coaches and parents. They played like you would want your boys to play: with fair play and determination."
