Valley Stream Mayor Ed Cahill dies

Valley Stream Mayor Ed Cahill died Saturday, July 31, at home. He was in his early 80s and had been ill for several months.

Cahill, a retired New York City police officer, has lived in Valley Stream for five decades with his wife, Maryann. He was first elected to the village board in 1995 and succeeded James Darcy as mayor in 1999. He was re-elected in 1999, 2003 and 2007.

His wake will be held at Lieber Funeral Home, 266 N. Central Avenue in Valley Stream, Monday, Aug. 2 and Tuesday, Aug. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral mass will be at Holy Name of Mary Church, on Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Holy Name of Mary Parish Outreach Center.
