A bold accomplishment for East Meadow writer

Adam Schlagman's first full-length DC comic book hits stores

Adam Schlagman’s days in the DC comics offices in Manhattan are long, intense, and he might jump from editing a story at his desk to racing down the hall for a meeting and then racing back to check some artwork.

As the clock ticks closer to yet another deadline, he could be poring over plot outlines, reviewing story pitches, reading through lettering and/or inspecting color files.

Life as the associate editor for the various Green Lantern and Justice League titles means there are always text messages to answer, emails to send and in the summer, he’s even the shortstop and co-captain on the company softball team.

DC must have issued Schlagman a power ring or something because somehow, the 27-year-old East Meadow native has found time to write his first full-length comic book.

“Batman: The Brave and The Bold” No. 19 hit comic book shops July 28, and was released in most mainstream book stores Aug. 11.

“Batman: The Brave and The Bold” is a monthly all-ages book based on the popular Cartoon Network show with the same name. Each issue teams The Caped Crusader with one of the hundreds of heroes in the DC Universe.

Schlagman chose to partner Batman with Green Lantern Hal Jordan in a story called “Emerald Knight” because “their personalities clash, but that's what makes the story so much fun to write. Batman is the planner, having a solution for every situation while Hal is cocky and overconfident, flying in with his fists, worrying about the results later.

“Batman uses the shadows to his advantage while Green Lantern bursts in enveloped in light,” said Schlagman, who moved to Queens four years ago to be closer to work. “The two couldn't be more different, but when the powerful Cyborg-Superman threatens the universe, they must embrace each other’s strengths to have a chance of winning.”
