A frightening sight in Rockville Centre

Rescuers took nearly 40 minutes to pull two survivors out of a car that left the roadway and ended upside down and backwards, folded around a tree on Peninsula Boulevard at approximately 9 p.m. on May 1. The one-car accident took place just north of the Lakeside Drive walk bridge.

Responders, who had to cut the driver and a passenger, both males, out of the car, included members of the Rockville Centre Floodlight Rescue Company, Alert Engine Company and Eureka Hook and Ladder, under the supervision of Rockville Centre Fire Chief John Busching, as well as the Nassau County Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit.

The two survivors of the accident were taken by a Rockville Centre Fire Department ambulance to Winthrop-University Hospital. Both had possible fractures and other injuries. Their current conditions are not known.
