Following through on a campaign promise to add more athletic fields in space-starved Rockville Centre, the village will turn a vacant lot to the east of Hickey field into a girl’s softball field.
According to Mayor Francis Murray, the field will also be available for Little League baseball. During a tour on Monday with Deputy Mayor Nancy Howard, trustees Ed Oppenheimer and Kevin Glynn, Village Administrator Keith Spadaro and Public Works Superintendent Harry Weed, who is overseeing the development of the field by crews from his department, Murray said it will be ready for the Little League season opener this Saturday, March 31.
“This will be another great asset for the youth of our village and the beginning of our promise to bring more athletic fields,” Murray said.
