A new tree in Rockville Centre's ‘Tree City’

Michael Shenker of the Rockville Centre Conservancy, left, and Mayor Fran Murray planted a Kwanzan Oriental Cherry on the eastern side of Village Hall to replace a mature tree that was blown down during the March 2010 nor’easter. Trees ordered by residents as part of the 2011 tree program are scheduled to be planted before Christmas. Orders for the 2012 program will be taken next year. Rockville Centre has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for 23 consecutive years in recognition of the village’s ongoing commitment to improving and renewing its stock of trees.
