Together, they built a replica of the two towers and covered them with the pictures and stories of the victims. "My husband is a carpenter," said Annemarie. "He built the towers out of wood, and I attached the photos using decoupage." A small American flag flies from the North Tower's 'transmitter'. At the foot of the towers are pictures of firefighters and rescuers bearing the phrase 'God Bless America'.
Dipietro said that the entire project took a little longer than a day to complete, and was on display in front of their Rosser Avenue home by Sept. 11 of this year.
"A few people came up to us during the day as we were putting it together, and told us that they had lost someone, or more than one person," said Dipietro. The memorial is lit up at night, a reminder of what communities all across the area lost, and also of what they gained.
