A poetic treat for Watson’s third graders in Rockville Centre
Posted
February was Poetry Month for the third graders at Watson Elementary School and the children were delighted to have a published poet visit their classrooms. Adele Gordon, 93, wrote her book of poetry, “Somebody’s Mother,” in 1984. She has written poems throughout her long lifetime and continues to share her love of poetry with others.
Mrs. Gordon’s grandson, Shayne Ryan, is a teaching assistant at Watson. With his grandmother and mother looking on, he read and discussed several of his grandmother’s poems. The students were inspired by the poetic link shared by the three generations of the Ryan family. After listening, they were eager to share their own poetry with Mrs. Gordon. The students learned firsthand that writing can be a lifelong endeavor.
