A rite of March -- wheelchair B-ball

The evening began with a moment of silence in honor of Graff. But as everyone who knew him well said, the local sports legend would have wanted the game to go on.
And go on it did. The much-anticipated annual event serves as a fund-raiser for the Merrick SEPTA, which uses the money for parent-education workshops throughout the school year. SEPTA, led this year by co-presidents Pamela Hondema and Michelle Tragesar, spends months organizing the big game.
As always, the game pitted the Kings against a Merrick community team that comprised teachers, school administrators, parents, PTA representatives, elected officials and community leaders, including this reporter. Numerous local businesses donated items that were raffled off. And hundreds of people, many of them children, packed the Calhoun bleachers.
A good time was had by all.
