"A tonic for seniors"Valley Stream's fabulous duo

"He's had four other partners, but he wore them all out," joked Adelman, a 30-year Valley Stream resident.
"The Fabulous Duo," as they are known to their audiences, have performed countless shows for various audiences at libraries, assisted living facilities, synagogues, and community group meetings. Using a mix of music and comedy, Greenfield and Adelman share their infectious love of show business with their audiences.
"We're a tonic for seniors," said 50-year Valley Stream resident Greenfield. "The act is geared for seniors and stresses musical comedy mixed with Broadway show tunes."
One of the duo's more popular numbers is a satirical rendition of the song made famous by French crooner Maurice Chevalier "Thank Heaven for Little Girls." Greenfield and Adelman perform the song as "Thank Heaven for Senior Men," with Greenfield's satirical lyrics taking the place of the originals to the delight of the audience. Greenfield is also an adept accordion player, an instrument which is integral to their act.
One of their many fans is Mollie Silverman, the program coordinator at the Women's Interfaith Council of Valley Stream. Greenfield and Adelman had performed before the organization at a June 30 meeting, and in a letter she sent out, Silverman noted that the duo received a standing ovation. David Gorkin, who works at the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center in Plainview, said that he became something of a celebrity at the center after hiring Greenfield and Adelman to perform.
Greenfield and Adelman usually perform between 25 to 30 shows a year. Greenfield said they usually perform their one-hour show for $150, but they also do some charity work. "We have a great time," Greenfield said. "We know we're not going to get rich performing, but some gas money helps." The emphasis, as Adelman said, "is always on fun."
