A tree grows at Wilson Elementary...

Wilson Elementary School’s fifth-graders surrounded a tree on school grounds that they donated through a fundraising effort. Earlier this year, students at the school participated in a PTA-sponsored event called “Dancing Classrooms.” After the event, the fifth-graders and their teachers created and sold DVDs as part of the fundraiser. Students determined the cost of the DVDs, learned basic economic concepts and used an online survey tool to identify what they could do with their proceeds. Monies from this effort were used in the purchase of the red maple tree, a commemorative plaque from the graduating class and a donation to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
