A very special visit

St. Agnes school was the only elementary school that he visited during his time in the United States.
Cardinal Grocholewski came to Long Island to witness a typical day at a diocesan elementary school. He toured the school with stops in the computer lab and the library. At the library, students assisted in a lesson on baseball. Fourth graders read the classic poem, "Casey at the Bat" by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, and sang "Take me out to the ballgame."
"It gives me great joy to welcome Cardinal Grocholewski to our diocese," said the Most Reverend William Murphy, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre in a written statement. "He is one of the most admired experts in the law of the Church in the world. He heads one of the Holy Father's major congregations, that of education, where he oversees the Church's commitment to education from schools to universities to seminaries. It is an honor to receive such a distinguished Cardinal of the Church who wishes to visit St. Agnes Cathedral School, one of the many excellent Catholic schools that serve our families and our diocese and indeed, the whole community."
After the tour, Cardinal Grocholewski met over lunch with Bishop Murphy, Sr. Joanne Callahan, O.S.U., superintendent of schools, Diocese of Rockville Centre; Lewis Ranieri, chairman of the board, The Tomorrow's Hope Foundation; Joseph Goeghan, chair of the Education Commission, as well as diocesan representatives of Catholic education on Long Island.
